What's important, really?

I woke up with tears for Japan today.  I think we should be affected, but I'm not quite sure why this has affected me as deeply as it has.  There have been many other happenings in the world (where does one begin with such a list?) that I have prayed and thought about, but they didn't rock me to the core quite like this.  I am struggling with what we see as important, as this could happen to anyone, anywhere, anytime.

What am I talking about?  Well, family is important.  Taking care of our health is important.  Joblessness, hunger, homelessness are all important.  To me salvation is important.  Education is important.  Weight loss is still important!  But expensive creams to keep wrinkles at bay?  Not so much.  Caring what somebody else looks like?  Nah.  This comes after already high disappointments over internet photos judging others' refrigerators, yards, or outfits without their knowledge.

Really?  Is that really where we want to focus our energy and thought?  What's important to you today, and has it changed since the events of the world last week?

Pushin' through the pain!
~Pauline~

  1. I'm with you Pauline. It's time to sit down and take a closer look at the things that are really important. Looking at the photos of Japan make me cry too. Thank you for stopping by, I appreciate your kind comment and support. Carla

  2. I agree, too. This has put it into perspective... we have so much to be thankful for... and they are going through so much.

  5. I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately it takes tragedies like this to change the way we look at things. I am also praying my heart out for all those involved. Thanks for sharing!

  7. My heart does break for the people of Japan. And I live in an earthquake prone area, so I am all too familiar that life is precious & circumstances can change in the blink of an eye. On November 15, 2008 my life changed FOREVER. We had a brush fire rage through our community. While our house didn't burn down, 6 houses surrounding us did--2 were family & 1 is really good friends of our's. And we did suffer plenty of smoke & water damage. But hubby & I were at work when it happened & we had nothing but our work clothes on our backs. We were not allowed to enter our house (or even SEE our house) for 3 days. Those 3 days were the most life-changing event I have ever been through. I was 4 months pregnant to make matters worse, but I do thank God I hadn't given birth already & had to care for a new baby in the middle of all that.

On a sidenote, someone shared with me recently that overeating is GLUTTONY. That it's a SIN. I do overeat at times, simply cuz something tastes soooo good. And I'm sure I'm not alone in that. I do often think of it in terms of weight & how it will impact me. I also think of it in terms of finances & how we need to stretch our food & save money right now. But never in the past had I stopped to think of it as a SIN. It's really make me ponder this topic......

  8. I totally agree, Pauline. This incident really affected me...I think it's mostly bc I've gotten to a certain age in which I've pushed past self-absorbness and to start caring for other people.

I think it's times like this that makes us stop and think about what truly IS important.

  9. Pauline, did you know that the CEO of CalorieLab live just south of Tokyo? I'm happy to report that he and his family have not been badly affected by this tragedy.

  11. Well. Aren't we on the same page with our posts lately?

I think Japan's multi-faceted tragedy has put things into perspective for a lot of us. I know I've been thinking about what really matters.

And, you know, salvation for loved ones really tops the list for me right now. Most other things that occupy our minds? In thee grand scheme of things, not very high at all.

Great post, and thanks for stopping by my bolt.

  14. Oh yes! definitely! What we worry about will hardly matter when we are faced with situations like these. My heart goes out to all Japanese.

Thanks for coming by my blog. I am sure when your 2 boys are left alone together, they will come thru and surprise you. I have been told that when I am not around, the children are very good and take care of each other! :)
