Walk This Way

Our vehicles are out of commission, the shop we use is about 2 miles from our house, and I very happily volunteered to drop the van off today.  I love a good walk out-of-doors!  And I've learned a few things along the way to maximize my walking workouts.

From choreographers in my "glory days" I learned proper posture:  Lift in the sternum, roll the shoulders back and down, and tip the pelvis forward while sucking the belly button towards the spine.

From T-Tapp I have learned to roll the thumbs outward with palms facing forward.  I find this helpful in the extreme for my posture, seeing as I'm ridonkulously endowed in the boobilage department.  As you get more and more comfortable, add pointing your toes forward and bending in the knees while pushing them outward.

It's a lot to remember!  Go slowly at first; you will still be sore.  I'm sure I'm the strange bird in the neighborhood from the burpees off my front porch several times a day to walking with JAZZ HANDS!  As you practice, it will get better.  You will learn to relax your metacarpals in time, as well as increase your speed.  I feel like walking this way will always challenge you, as you can always tuck farther and squeeze harder!

Sometimes I like to walk with 3-5 lb. hand weights.  I try to do one movement per block:  bicep curls, triceps, shoulder shrugs, back pinches, overhead presses, or delt lifts.  Happy walking!

Pushin' through the pain!

I forgot to share the best part of my day!  As I came in our car guy said, "Oh it's you!  I barely recognized you.  You've lost weight!"  I'll take it!
